One Day Workshop on NMEICT Awareness ( 9th May, 2013 )

The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur was established as one of the seventeen Regional Engineering Colleges in 1960 as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of West Bengal and was registered under the Register of Societies Act. The NIT Durgapur was given prestigious status of an Institute of National Importance with full academy, administrative, and financial autonomy in 2007 through the NIT Act.

The Institute awards B.Tech., M.Sc., M.B.A., M.C.A., M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees to students after their successful completion of the specified courses. The Institute imparts education in the disciplines of Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Application, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth and Environmental science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Management Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Management Studies, and Physics. The NIT Durgapur also focuses on project oriented research works and industrial collaborative research work.

The NIT Durgapur is located in the heartland of industrial activities and the mineral-rich region of West Bengal. The city Durgapur is well connected by rail with Kolkata, 158km away, and is an important railway station on the main New Delhi-Kolkata route. It is two and half hours’ drive from Kolkata Airport along Durgapur Expressway and NH 2. NIT Durgapur is fully residential and co-educational institute. At present about 3700 boys and 1000 girls reside in seven boys' hostels and three girls' hostels. The annual student intake is more than 1000 students.
