By road it can be reached from Kolkata within 2.5 to 3 hours (approx. 180 km) via the national highway (NH-2) connecting Kolkata with New Delhi, whereas by express trains, it is only two hours journey. The nearest international airport is NSC Bose International airport in Kolkata which can be reached by roadin 2.5 hours. This airport has hundreds of national and international flights everyday connecting to the rest of India and the world. The train station Durgapur falls on the main route that connects Kolkata (Howrah) with the national capital New Delhi.


By train: From Durgapur station take yellow Taxi to NIT (about Rs. 180-200) or Public buses going to Bhiringi/NIT. By bus: From Durgapur city centre bus stand take an auto rickshaw (for Rs. 60) to arrive at NIT. From Esplanade bus depot in Kolkata take (AC, non-AC and Volvo) buses every 10/15 minutes to Durgapur city centre and takes about 3 to 3.5 hours) By air: Cabs can be pre-arranged for pick up (Rs. 3500) from airport to Durgapur. Alternatively, take pre-paid taxi from airport to Dankuni (Rs. 300) and then take bus for Durgapur (Rs. 125 to 380). Travel time 2.5 to 3 hours.
