About the Institute:
The National Institute of Technology- Durgapur (formerly Regional Engineering College, Durgapur), was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges aimed to function as a pace setter for engineering education in the country and to foster national integration. It is a fully-funded premier Technological Institution of the Government of India and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors.
Department of Chemical Engineering:
The Department of Chemical Engineering of National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, was established with active support of UNESCO. The B.E. course in Chemical Engineering was started in 1964, and the first batch of students were awarded the degree in 1969. The Post-graduate program with the specialization 'Production Fertilisers' was introduced in 1968, along with the doctoral program in Chemical Engineering. Presently the department has a sanctioned intake of 70 students for the B.E. course per year. For admission to the M. Tech. course, 25 seats are available in regular full-time course with duration of 2.0 years, while 10 seats are reserved for part-time students from industries with course duration of 3 years. Curriculum and syllabi of the courses offered were continuously updated over the years to keep pace with rapidly changing technological developments. The department offers doctoral program on different aspects of chemical engg with round-the-year registration basis. It consists of state-of-the-art laboratories, such as, Energy Lab, Membrane Lab, Pressure Swing Adsorption Lab, Environmental Engg Lab, etc for the all-round growth of technical knowledge of our students and researchers.
